Every year the build up to UTMB is huge. The excitement is on a different scale, much like the mountains of the area. The event itself goes for an entire week, from the 25th of August (just a few days from now) until the 31st, and in that time there are 9 different events that take place!
I was lucky enough to be there last year crewing Matthew Crehan, and there are so many amazing things that happen – but also, so many amazing things that you miss! Watching from home in Australia doesn’t make it any easier. While the live stream is truly incredible, it can be incredibly hard to keep track of everything that’s happening.
To make things easier, we’ve built this schedule for you, with all you need to know about what is happening when – in Chamonix Time, Australian Time, and even a couple of US Time Zones!
We’ve broken it down by race, and again by day, for your easy viewing. Enjoy!

“Special Moments, not to be missed” – by Majell Backhausen
Maj on his way to a 22nd place finish at UTMB in 2015, on his birthday! We’re also fortunate enough to have insights on some other special moments not to miss from one of, if not the most UTMB aware runner in Australia, Majell Backhausen! Not only is he racing TDS this year (where he’s previously finished 6th) he’s also going to be jumping in the UTMB Live Stream commentary box himself.
You can read our pre-race interview with Majell, as well as many other Aussie’s, plus the ENTIRE start list of all the Australian’s who are racing in our blog here.
You can also see the Elite Runners Preview start lists for all the races at UTMB in our other blog here.
Majell is also a coach at Alpine Performance Run Coaching, one of the verified coaching groups on Rundais.

The Start
“The start is obviously emotional in many ways.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 5:45pm Friday 1:45am Saturday 1:15am Saturday 11:45pm Friday 11:45am Friday 8:45am Friday St Gervais
“St Gervais is an epic spectacle as the town is transformed and runners take over the closed roads coming into and out of the aid station/township. It also shows the race unfold after the first major climb out of the Chamonix Valley.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 7:50pm Friday 3:50am Saturday 3:20am Saturday 1:50am Saturday 1:50pm Friday 10:50am Friday Notre Dame
โ ”Notre Dame is a crazy crazy moment in the initial hours of night time. This section is lined with crazy spectators cheering, with flares, flags, horns, pretty sure there are fires burning too. It’s crazy.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 9pm Friday 5am Saturday 4:30am Saturday 3am Saturday 3pm Friday Midday Friday Courmayeur Aid Station
โ ”Courmayeur Aid station, the second aid station runners receive crewing, so it is awesome to see how they work with their crew and quickly they go in and out of this aid station and they are moving in the early hours of the morning, some crazy stats exist from this location, like the past 5 winners have all arrived here in first place, even though it is only 83.5km into the race (need to fact check this). But a great moment to see in the race. This year they will also have directional microphones to capture the conversation between crew and runner. This is also a very common place for runners to drop.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 2:30am Saturday 10:30am Saturday 10am Saturday 8:30am Saturday 8:30pm Friday 5:30pm Friday Arnouvaz
“Arnouvaz – this will be live from 4am local time until 7amโฆ Hosted by myself and Alexisโฆ we should have a bit of fun here whilst the rest of Europe sleeps, we will hold the fort and livestream.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 4am Saturday Midday Saturday 11:30am Saturday 10am Saturday 10pm Friday 7pm Friday Grand Col Ferret
“The Grand Col Ferret in an amazing drone shot of this high pass with sunrise, watching the leaders move over this section is spectacular. This is their transition from Italy to Switzerland.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 5:30am Saturday 1:30pm Saturday 1pm Saturday 11:30am Saturday 11:30pm Friday 8:30pm Friday Champex-Lac
“Champex-Lac, the first time the runners see crew in the day light, pivotal moment in the race as this marks the ‘homestretch’.”

“Trient, next crewed aid station and this is where wheels can really be falling off, or typically the winner has a significant lead.”

“Vallorcine Aid station, the last crew point and the finish is so very close. Positions of the top 10 can still change dramatically in this final section to the finish.”
Chamonix Time AEST ACST AWST EDT PDT 1st Male 2024 11:30am Saturday 7:30pm Saturday 7pm Saturday 5:30pm Saturday 5:30am Saturday 2:30am Saturday 1st Female 2024 1:20pm Saturday 9:20pm Saturday 8:50pm Saturday 7:20pm Saturday 7:20am Saturday 4:20am Saturday โ La Flรฉgรจre
“La Flรฉgรจre is the final aid station and only 7km from the finish. Crowds here for the leaders are again, huge and wild. There is only one downhill back to Chamonix from here and if the leader is clear, it is certainly a ‘victory lap’ of sorts. But a very cool moment because there is not much standing in the way of finishing UTMB from this point. Although, podiums spots have changed on this section before.”
