Luke Pryor blends two decades of sport-science know-how with the clinical training required to untangle anxiety, self-doubt and burnout. Based on the Sunshine Coast, he works almost exclusively online so runners, cyclists and triathletes can access sessions from anywhere.

From gyms to finish lines to therapy rooms

Luke’s first career spanned fifteen years in strength and conditioning. He coached weekend warriors, AFL squads and Olympic hopefuls at the Victorian Institute of Sport. The longer he watched athletes train side by side, the more one question kept bugging him:

Why do some progress while others plateau when their programs and support look identical?

The patterns pointed to mindset. Motivation, belief systems and self-sabotage were tipping the scales, so Luke returned to university for six more years, completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology and has practised both mental-health therapy and performance psychology since 2013.

Personal endurance résumé

  • More than thirty ultramarathons finished
  • Multiple cycling events completed
  • Growing passion for multi-day bike-packing adventures

Luke describes himself as “far from a naturally gifted athlete” and credits his finishes to process, consistency and a willingness to work with discomfort. That perspective shapes every mental-skills plan he builds for clients.

Support for anxiety, depression, trauma, eating concerns, addiction, life transitions, relationship stress and overall well-being. Luke’s clinical approach keeps health first because “a content, emotionally stable athlete encounters fewer obstacles in achieving peak performance.”

2. Performance psychology

Goal-setting, visualisation, confidence building, focus under pressure, resilience, composure on race day and strategies to reduce DNFs. All tools are evidence-based and tailored to the training calendar.

Evidence-based methods Luke uses
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Motivational Interviewing
Mindfulness practice
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
