Sara Ringham crossed the Sydney Marathon finish line in 2024 with her uncle beside her. He’d flown in from Boston just to run it with her, and waiting on the other side of the finish line was her Dad, who she hadn’t seen in almost ten years (cue the tears)!

That’s the thing about running, it’s often so much more than the run itself.

Sara is one of the people behind Race Hub Australia, a growing events company that’s filling a gap in the Australian running calendar. Their aim is to deliver events where every runner feels like they belong, a positive and welcoming energy often missing.

It started with a gap in the calendar

Jack Green moved to Australia from the UK with a 2:32 marathon PB and a family full of runners (he’s still only the fourth fastest in his household, which he’ll happily admit). After the lockdowns were lifted, he noticed something that surprised him. Compared to the UK, Australia’s running calendar was thin. There weren’t enough accessible, affordable, no pressure events for everyday runners.

So in early 2024, a month after marrying his partner Caitlin in South Australia, they launched Race Hub Australia.

The idea was straightforward. Build events that feel welcoming from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. No elitist energy or intimidation factor, just well organised race days in great locations, with an energy which ensures that all participants feel excited to take on a challenge, but aren’t worried about their pace or finish time.

Race day nerves? That’s okay!

Caitlin Cunningham manages the event village on race day, she’s the one making sure logistics run smoothly, bag drop is sorted, and the atmosphere is on point.

Caitlin’s first official event was the Sydney 10k, which she entered as a surprise for Jack! She didn’t know what to expect but she finished and loved every second of it. Partaking in that event sparked a love for race day energy that soon pulled her into building these events with Jack.

Caitlin is open about the fact that she still gets butterflies before a start line as a runner. And that’s exactly why Race Hub feels the way it does. So, when the person running your event village knows what it’s like to stand in your shoes, the whole experience is built differently.

The person building Race Hub’s running community

Lauren recently made the move from the UK to Australia to take on the role of Ambassador Director at Race Hub. Her job is to grow the community of runners who represent what Race Hub stands for, and she’s a perfect fit for it.

Running became Lauren’s passion in her early twenties, not through chasing times, but through the mental reset of those early morning runs. Consistency over intensity. Showing up over showing off. That approach recently carried her to a 3:16 finish at her debut marathon in Manchester!

It’s exactly the energy Race Hub wants its ambassadors to carry. You don’t need to be the fastest. You just need to love the sport and want to share it with others.

Prizes for getting better, not being the best

One detail that says everything about Race Hub’s philosophy: their team prizes aren’t awarded to the fastest.

They’re awarded based on improvement.

If you’ve got a current PB, you’re a member of a running club, and you enter as a team of four or more, your team is judged on how much each of you improved rather than who crossed the line first.

It’s a small detail on paper, yet for the runner who shaved 30 seconds off their 5k, it’s everything to be recognised for this!
