What Is the Wings for Life World Run?

The Wings for Life World Run (WFLWR) is a truly global race unlike any other. This innovative event raises vital funds for spinal cord research and brings together runners and wheelchair participants from around the world. Instead of a traditional finish line, competitors run side by side, striving to stay ahead of a Virtual Catcher Car that begins its chase 30 minutes after the start.

Every dollar you contribute through the registration fee and donations goes directly into advancing spinal cord research, helping to move one step closer to finding a cure.

How It Works

Unique Race Format

No Finish Line: There’s no set finish line. The race transforms into an “App Run Event” where your goal is to keep ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car.
The Chase: At exactly 9:00 PM, the race kicks off from Royal Randwick Racecourse. Thirty minutes later, the Virtual Catcher Car launches at 14 km/h, steadily increasing its pace until it overtakes every runner.
Real-Time Tracking: Your progress is tracked in real time via the Wings for Life World Run App (available for both Android and iPhone). Make sure your phone is fully charged on race day!

Participation and Registration

Entry Fee: $28 per participant (100% of the fees go to spinal cord research).
How to Register: Download the Wings for Life World Run App, sign up for race day, and receive your personal race number via email and through the app.
Wheelchair Accessibility: This event is fully inclusive—wheelchair participants start side by side with runners. All wheelchair racers must use everyday wheelchairs.

What to Bring

Phone: Fully charged as the app is essential for tracking and alerts when you’re caught by the Virtual Catcher Car.
Personal Supplies: There will be no official refreshment stations on the route; please bring your own water, snacks, and any other essentials you need.
