Travel through the ancient lands of the Kaurna and Peramangk peoples in Kuitpo Forest, near Meadows in the Mount Lofty Ranges. Kuipto was established to ensure a sustainable timber resource for South Australia in 1898, the first of several forest plantations in the area. The reserve covers an area of 3,600 hectares, including plantation and native bushland. It is managed for sustainable commercial forestry, while also providing for the conservation of native flora and fauna and community use for recreation. You’ll run through an amazing mix of scenic pine plantations and native bush and enjoy wide forestry roads mixed with some single tracks. Don’t forget to look up as you traverse through the towering trees, breathe in the scent of the pines and keep a sharp lookout for the pixies dancing under the Amanita muscaria (bright red mushrooms).
